An early panoramic view of Trinidad, dated 1875. The two spurs of the
Ryder Wharf railway can be seen; one forking toward Old Town, and the
other to the Hooper Bros. mills located on the bluffs over what is now
State Beach. (Image courtesy Anne Odom.)
A quiet residential neighborhood today, the intersection of Galindo and
Van Wycke Sts. was the bustling center of civic life in Old Town
Trinidad. The large building with the balcony is the Occidental Hotel;
at far right is the brick storehouse. In the distance, a portion of the
Ryder Wharf can be seen. The presence of the telegraph pole in front of
the storehouse dates this photo to 1875 or later. (Photo courtesy Anne
Odom.)
A view of Old Town in the mid-1890s. The Occidental Hotel is the large
squarish building at center right; to the left of it is the brick
storehouse. Also note the numerous small shanties that occupied what is
now the parking lot of the Seascape restaurant, and how far inland the
beach sands once extended. (Photo courtesy Trinidad Museum Society.)
